Meet Valentine's Monsters!

When Valentine was a toddler, I made her Burgess from a
pattern in Closet Monsters by John Murphy.

This summer, at ten years old, she pulled the same book off
the shelf and began creating her own monsters — first following the patterns,
then working free-form, practicing her sewing while inventing new creatures.

Almost immediately the monsters jumped into her favorite medium: ink and paper.

These are early portraits of an imagination in motion.
Valentine is still developing their stories and turning them into a comic.
